Rich Helms

1965 Baldwin High School production of The Mouse That Roared. Pittsburgh Post-Gazette clipping.

Rich Helms attended Baldwin High School, Pittsburgh, PA. In 1965 the school theatre club performed, The Dramatic Publishing Company play, The Mouse That Roared. Rich played Tully Bascom.

I have fond memories of being in Roared. The two mouse movies are favourites of mine. I especially love The Mouse on the Moon movie and wondered why it had never been made into a play.

Like 1950’s sci-fi movies, there was no general public knowledge of space travel when they were made. My challenge was how to update the story in a way that would resonate with a twenty-first century audience. I attacked this like a research project, studying the Apollo 11 flight information in detail.
